Wines of the Month

THIS SEPTEMBER, THE SPOTLIGHT IS ON HEAD WINES

Wines that bring joy. Everyday. Try our top picks from Head Wines this month:

Head Red GSM 2021

Always picked on the cusp of ripeness with some whole-bunches retained during the fermentation. The Grenache components are sourced from up to five different vineyards across the Barossa Valley, all aged between 50 and 80 years old. The shiraz component is from the Eden Valley giving dried herb aroma and the Matarois sourced from a 60yo block in Nuriootpa on sandy soils for spice and tannin.

Head Red Shiraz 2021

A rather large jigsaw puzzle of 10 very unique Barossa vineyards are used for Head Red Shiraz. They mostly come from the higher altitude, rocky, cooler sites of the Eden Valley. In the winery there is very little ‘fancy’ winemaking — ultimately allowing the vintage and Barossa character to show clearly. 2021’s growing season was mild & dry with warm flowering conditions helping yields to settle in above average. Conditions were dominated by La Nina forming over the east coast of Australia providing mild temperatures and cooler nights in South Australia. Ripening conditions were near perfect and even an Indian Summer prevailed. 2021 promises to be one of the greats

Head Riesling 2022

The 2022 Riesling from Eden Valley is highlighted by unusually high acidity.  100% malo-lactic fermentation on lees in oak for a full year with no need for Sulphur until bottling. The wine was also allowed to stabilize naturally, un-fined & lightly filtered. A textural style with citrus, pine-apple, lemon and grapefruit together with a long, salty, honeyed, minerally finish. Drink with chicken or fish with white sauces.

You won't be disappointed by these varietals from Head Wines favourites. Now pouring at Fitzy's Toowoomba.
